What's the point of hate crimes legislation?

It just doesn't make sense to me that some crimes are considered hate crimes and others are not because ALL crimes are motivated by hate. If you kill someone or beat someone up, it means you hate them right? What does it matter if the victim was a child, the elderly, a prostitute, or the boy next door? Why should crimes against minorities be given special hate crime status as if those crimes are somehow more horrible and ignominious than crimes against anyone else?What's the point of hate crimes legislation?I agree, and I think it is totally wrong. Think about it - charging someone with an extra crime or giving them a longer sentence for 'hating' someone else? Since when is it a crime to hate someone? More BS by the govt to mess with situations already covered by 10 other laws. And would it ever be 'fair'? White on black - oh that's absolutely a hate crime. Black on white - well, now, that's just 'ordinary' crime. Both however were 'identical' incidents, to the last detail. A robber is not motivated by hate, he's motivated by any money he may receive, or any posession he can get



A rapist is not motivated by hate, they are motivated by their dominance over a woman, and the feeling of power they have over them.



A murderer may not have killed out of hate; just killed a person just because they saw something they did, and didn't want a witness.



A molester is not motivated by hate, they are motivated by the ill conceived notion that they are doing nothing wrong to a child.



Hate crimes are specific. That a person or a group of individuals are motivated by their prejudices to harm another person or group based on their; sex, sexual orientation, or race. and by their actions caused harm, or death.



Hate crimes are horrible, because they are simply fueled by HATE.
