What implications do you consider the introduction of this legislation has had on local authority departments?

The 2nd April 2007 saw the introduction of the ban on smoking in public places under the health act 2006 in wales. Please help me answer this question as im stumped!!!! The whole question is this........... What implications do you consider the introduction of this legislation has had on local authority environmental health departments and the publics health. Can someone please help me??What implications do you consider the introduction of this legislation has had on local authority departments?Quite frankly as far as the public health issue is concerned there will be little or no difference, people who smoke will continue to do so, and those who may or may not have been affected by so called 'passive smoking' will reap little or no benefit from the ban.

As far as local authorities are concerned, they have to police the ban to ensure that the 'law is upheld'.

it is the rate payer that foots the bill for checking on premises involved. What implications do you consider the introduction of this legislation has had on local authority departments? In Massachusetts, any time a person violates this, there is a fine imposed. The money from the collective fines are revenue for the state. They can funnel this revenue into education or any state subsidized program, contract whatever- it depends on how the state budget is drawn up. The impact on local authorities and health departments would not be substantial; health dept. officials would include this check as part of inspection (unless a private citizen were to call and report to the health dept., which would require them to make a special visit to re-inspect).

As for the public's health, I'm sure that many non-smokers are relieved to not have the second-hand smoke or smell wafting into their dining area. I don't think that there is any way to accurately Gage the overall physiological impact on public health yet.
