Is there any legislation that allows you to take time away from your job?

I live in Virginia and I am currently in my sophmore year at college. I am looking to do some internships durring the summer or next spring's semester, but i currently work a full time job at wal-mart distribution center. Is there any kind of way i could take an extended leave of absense from my job to do the internship? Is there any legislation that allows you to take time away from your job?The only extended leave of absence that I am aware of is the FMLA or Family Medical Leave of Absence.

This allows you to have up to 12 weeks (non-paid) time off work, but the company cannot fire you or demote you during that time.

But, this is usually only if you have a medical reason, or a family member has a medical reason, or the birth or adoption of a child.

But, as I'm sure you are aware, the company you work for may decide to work with you anyway, and they may not. It depends on a lot of different variables. But as far as I know, it will be up to the companies discretion. There is no law that requires them to do it except for the above reasons.

Good Luck

Good Luck!Is there any legislation that allows you to take time away from your job?Talk to your supervisors, if they refuse your request then quit. Jobs are a dime a dozen, careers are not.
