Muskets were the assault rifles of our founder鈥檚 day. Advancements in technology are not an excuse to restrict our rights. Just because there are now telephones and computers does not mean we no longer have the freedom of speech.
In its full text the second amendment says, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
For those of you who don't believe the second amendment of the BILL OF RIGHTS is an individual right then why the heck do you think it says THE PEOPLE have the right and not the militia? Every single right of the BILL OF RIGHTS is an individual right. The second amendment does not differ. The intent of the BILL OF RIGHTS was to restrict the federal government and protect individual rights.
The militia, which is meant to consist only of THE PEOPLE, is required to secure a free state. If the people did not have the arms and only the government did then that would secure a tyrannical police state rather than a free state.
"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." - Thomas Jefferson
"The militia, who are in fact the effective part of the people at large, will render many troops quite unnecessary. They will form a powerful check upon the regular troops, and will generally be sufficient to over-awe them" - Tench Coxe
"To preserve liberty it is essential that the whole body of people always possess arms." - Richard Henry Lee
"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people鈥檚 liberty teeth and the keystone under independence." - George WashingtonDo any of you think that gun bans should be put up for legislation?
Well the right to keep and bear arms is one of the most straight forward amendments in our constitution, I find odd that people don't understand that amendment and think they can go free banning whenever they want

Do any of you think that gun bans should be put up for legislation?Absolutely not.Only if you want to do away with the bill of rights. and some people do apparently. Usually the lesser educated ones.Do any of you think that gun bans should be put up for legislation?Yes, and then we can just destroy the entire constitution. Lets start with eliminating our freedom to assemble. Then we can eliminate free speech. Then we can eliminate private property. I am getting carried away, but it just makes me so excited when I think about the change that we could make.
Obama or Clinton '08Do any of you think that gun bans should be put up for legislation?
I think that after 911 and 7 years of corrupt people in government the gun issues has faded and only a few ultra Liberals and ultra Conservatives want to ban all together.
The only way they would take my guns is out of my cold dead fingers. I'd like to think the government that trained me and which I work for wouldn't take my rights to bear arms.Do any of you think that gun bans should be put up for legislation?
Most of the people who are pro-gun don't see teenagers die because of gun violence. I have seen enough of that. I think people should be able to hunt and protect their homes (that was the whole reason to have the right to arm yourself). It is unfortunate that the actions of few has to impact the rights of all but we should ban handguns and assault weapons.
Just leave my guns alone!
all laws neeed to be legislated. The issue is the right you refer to. Many constitutional scholars argue that the wording of the second amendment is clear - you must be part of a recognized (regulated) militia in order to carry a gun. In any case, even if you believe that the right devolves to any individual, the supreme court has several times ruled that this is not an absolute right - and bans on some types of weapons are constitutional.
It is not simply a yes no question; and all rights have to be balanced against both the will and the good of the people.
I agree that taking away handguns and weapons for personal defense is a really, really bad idea. It leads to the situation where the only people who have guns are those who are willing to go to the black market to get them.
However, I do think there should be bans on certain TYPES of weapons, such as AK47s. Basically their only use is to assault large groups of people--so they're not really a defense weapon in any way, shape or form.
Of course we sould ban guns right away, because all CRIMINALS obey the law! That would leave us law abiding citizens SO much safer.
There should be NO ban on guns, period. Those of you that say yes, there should be a ban on guns, but ONLY this kind, or that kind, do you realize that if the govt ia allowed to ban one or two, they WILL go for the rest. There may not be any reason for some of youto own an AK47 type gun, but i have ONE very important reason, BECAUSE I CAN. I dont care if my assault type firearms stay in my closet forever, and i dont shoot them, at least i still have the right to own them. They are fun to shoot, and that is what law-abiding citizens do, they just shoot them. If the govt were allowed to take them away, criminals would still use THEIRS for breaking the law. Give the govt nothing on this one, no gun ban would make the streets a safer place. More guns in law abiders hands would.
