What stars and constellation can I see from my house?

Is there a website do I can check?

I live in the the Dallas,Texas area. What stars and constellation can I see from my house? The constellations that you can see from a location depend on two things: Lattitude, and how much light pollution there is in your area. In Dallas, you can see pretty much the same objects in the sky that I can in Alabama.

The lattitude effects what is available in the sky to begin with. Stars like Alpha Centauri are below the horizon all year long from the northern hemisphere.

The light pollution limits the stars you can see to just the brighter ones. Constellations such as cancer require darker conditions to see than the brilliant Orion.

Some notables:

The big dipper, the north star (Polaris), Orion, all of the signs of the zodiac, Sirius (the brightest star in the sky besides the sun itself), Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Cassiopea, Perseus, Hercules... the list goes on and on.

Check this site out - it seems pretty suitable for someone like you who is interested in getting started

Also, you should view this from the country area or rural neighborhood where there are few lights. In the city with all the lights it makes it difficult to see the stars. The constellations vary from the seasons as well as the earth shifts its axis. Go to a planitarium and you'll be able to get that info.
