would get to do half time? i have been told this by several people. someone is supposed to sign for prison time this week and i really need to knowDid CA legislation pass any new laws stating that all criminals first time sentenced to prison?Actually, those in state prison for most nonviolent offenses have been eligible for half-time conduct credits for some time now. (In fact, those in conservation camps ("fire camps") can get more time off than that (and they earn it).) What recently changed was the conduct credit which was applied to "time served" in county jails prior to sentencing under Penal Code section 4019. That used to be 1 for 2 credit, but is now half time as well for a person sentenced to prison for most nonviolent offenses. (I.e., 30 days in custody used to result in 15 days conduct credit for a total of 45. Now 30 days in custody results in conduct credit of 30 days for a total of 60.) This conduct credit does not apply (presentence or in prison) to violent offenses, or to those with prior "strikes," among others.Did CA legislation pass any new laws stating that all criminals first time sentenced to prison? Not half time.
