Discuss different aids and rules of interpretation available to court when faced with an ambiguous legislation?

There are, of course, many ways in which courts seek to interpret the legislation with which they have to deal. If you need a starting point, then there are various things to check -

literal rule (exactly what the black letter law says)

mischief rule (what mischief was the legislation designed to remedy)

golden rule (trying to make the best of a piece of legislation)

and so on.

For fuller detail, you will need to check a specific reference book, such as Bennion on Interpretation.
