The Citizen Legislature Act 鈥?A constitutional amendment which would limit U.S. Senators to 2 terms of six years each and House members to six terms of two years each. There would also be a mandatory retirement age of 70 years old.Im supposed to support this legislation? reasons why this bill should be passed?The benefit of term limits is so certain politicians don't become so powerful that they are hard to defeat in an election even when they do bad things. With term limits, the concept of megapowerful politicians and career politicians go away.



The age limit of 70 I'm not sure I agree with. I leave it up to voters to determine whether or not someone is mentally fit for office, and there are many people 70 and older whose mind is sharp.



The downside to term limits include the fact that citizens would be unable to keep in office a politician who does very good things. In these cases citizens would be forced to replace someone they really like with a newcomer.



Additionally, term limits can interfere with accountability. Anytime an elected official knows they will be out of office no matter what at a given point, and there are no more elections to worry about, they can do things citizens don't actually want because they have nothing to lose. The same can be true of any politician who knows they won't be seeking another term after the present one expires, but with term limits there will be far more politicians who don't have to worry about pleasing voters as much anymore.Im supposed to support this legislation? reasons why this bill should be passed?im all for it, **** superpower family's and politicians they hardly have an interest outside of benefiting themselves, except for the 70 thing, medical science is constantly expanding peoples lives 70 may not be that old in 10 or especially 30 years (its a borderline age now for a mandatory retirement) and the bill would be seen as out of date in a short time and would have to go through a lengthy process.Im supposed to support this legislation? reasons why this bill should be passed?This was a cockamamie idea of the Newtcons that couldn't even get out of congress with the necessary 2/3 majority. There is no reason why it should have been passed then or now. It is up to the people to decide this matter through their votes.
